When we first came to live in Highbrook, the Parish had its own magazine - The Highbrook Chronicle. We have recently come across quite a number of these, from September 1988 to January 1993 - but not a complete set. Some of them make quite interesting reading, and we felt it might be worthwhile to preserve a little bit of recent local history by compiling an "archive" which we could access via John & Sylvia's website (with their permission). We would be very happy to coordinate this if there was sufficient support for the idea - and if we could track down the missing issues. If you are interested, perhaps you could let us know which issues you have, and we could collect them from you, copy them, and return them straight away.
We also have just one copy of Peter Browne's excellent "Hello Highbrook", from 1997. It would be good to include all copies of these too in the archive - hopefully Peter has kept the originals?
Highbrook Village Hall - North window memorial inscription.
As you may be aware, due to decay, the north window in the hall has needed to be replaced and this is now complete. It was not possible to salvage the glass.
The existing north window had an engraved inscription to Harry and Ruby Rothwell in recognition of their services to the village while they were both alive.
Peter Browne, who made the original engraving, has kindly offered to engrave the new glass with the same inscription, free of charge. However some residents have suggested that a different form of record should be made and that it should be put to the village to decide what would be appropriate or indeed whether any memorial is required.
We would be grateful if you can make your feelings known to the committee via the Highbrook Website before their next meeting (15th September 2010) when the committee will consider all the representations and a decision will be made.
Many Thanks HVHMC

Now we have Broadband in Highbrook Village Hall, Sylvia and I would like to offer some PC/Internet "workshops" on a not-for-profit basis to anyone locally. But what, if anything, would you like to know more about - Is it ....
Using Word and Excel or managing your Email?
Making better use of Highbrook.info and the Hoathly Hub?
Manipulating digital photos and video or using digital music?
Perhaps buying or selling on eBay or Amazon?
Maybe online shopping in general and banking?
Effective searching on Google or using Google Earth?
Video-calling with friends and family on Skype?
Or maybe some other topics I haven't mentioned?
If you know someone without a PC / Internet who would like to find out more - please let them know too.
Please use this forum to let us know your thoughts on this and when might be most convenient to run these workshops?
The Village Hall also now owns a laptop for community use so we can make use of that or you could bring your own laptops along.
Tell us what you think of the new Highbrook website:
- What do you like/dislike about it?
- Is anything missing?
- Do you have problems using it?
- How can we increase advertising revenue?
All comments, positive or negative, are welcome.
